Math Lab: Estimating the Height of a Tall Object

Purpose: to estimate the height of a tall object using a clinometer and a tape measure.

Part I:

1.  Record the angle and your distance to the object below.

2. Find h.  Show your work.

3.  Find your height in meters.  Remember, 2.54 cm=1 inch and 100 cm = 1 m.

4.  Find the height of the object.  Show your work.

Part II:

Repeat the experiment for an object that has been thrown straight up into the air.
